What is up with Kinja and YouTube? Every time I paste a YT link (even waiting for the player to come up in the text box) and save, it comes out as a URL!

And images are not loaded. Not from URL, not from PC: says "waiting for i.kinja-img.com"

I found embedding a YouTube video using HTML works way easier.

Sometimes you have to play with the insertion point. (That's what she said.) Meaning, return and backspace a couple of times and reinsert.
